'THE LAST FIVE YEARS' COMING TO HBO

HBO announced that they will broadcast the documentary 'David Bowie: The Last Five Years' sometime this year.

The film includes interviews with Bowie and his collaborators, footage of the making of his musical 'Lazarus', as well as his final two albums 'The Next Day' and 'Blackstar'.

The exact broadcast date has not been revealed yet.

 

NEW WATERS COMING

 Former Pink Floyd member, Roger Waters, has announced the tilte of what will be his first album of new material in 25 years.

There is no release date set for 'Is This The Life We Really Want?', but Water's Facebook page promises that the album is "coming soon".

No doubt, it'll be worth the wait.

 

INFINITE PROMO

 Deep Purple have posted a promo video for their forthcoming album "InFinite", which comes out on April 7th.

The band recorded it last year in Nashville with legendary producer Bob Ezrin.

Deep Purple will be hitting the road with Alice Cooper and Edgar Winter Group for a late summer tour. The Only Canadian date so far is Toronto on September 2nd.

 

R.I.P. JOHN WETTON 1949 - 2017

 Bassis and singer for Asia, John Wetton, has passed away at the age of 67 after a battle with cancer.

Wetton's carreer included stints with King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep and more.

 

NEW 'WHAT IS LIFE' VIDEO

 46 years after its release, George Harrison's "What Is Life" finally has an official video to coincide with his vinyl collection re-release in February!

 

THE END OF (A) SAGA

After 40 years and 21 albums, Canadian prog rock band Saga is calling it quits.

 Paul McCartney is suing publisher Sony over ownership of the Beatles' catalog.

Sony agreed to buy out the remaining 50% interest in the catalog from Michael Jackson's estate last year for $750 million.

Waters kicks will bring his "Us + Them" tour to Vancouver's Rogers Arena on October 28th

Bon Jovi is holing a contest to choose bands or singers to open for their upcoming tour!

Artists can upload videos of themselves performing original music, and promoters Live Nation will pick 10 finalists. Bon Jovi management will then choose winners from the finalists to perform 20 minute sets.

 An EP of David Bowie's final recordings has been released to mark the late singer's 70th birthday on January 8th.

BOWIE FOR CHARITY

A large crowd of David Bowie fans convened in London on Sunday night (Jan. 8) for a charity concert to celebrate the late artist's legendary career.

The show included performanced by past members of his touring band. Other guests included Bowie's close friend, actor Gary Oldman and Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott.

The three hour show was backed by the LondonCommunity Gospel Choir and a string section. 

 

THE JOSHUA TOUR

 U2 has officially annouced a stadium tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their Grammy Award winning album "The Joshua Tree"!

The tour will include a stop at Vancouver's BC Place on May 12th! Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, January 17th!

 

"ENTER SAND-HAM"

 Metallica surprised staff at a Los Angeles grocery store by leading them in a rendition of their 1991 hit "Enter Sandman".

The visit was being filmed for an episode of comedian Billy Eichner's TV series "Billy on the Street".

PAPA MICK!

The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger has become a father again at the age of 73.

Jagger welcomed the birth of his son with his girlfriend, 29 year-old American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, in New York earlier today (Dec. 8).

The as-yet-unnamed baby boy is Mick's 8th child, and is younger than his great-granddaughter. 

He's already a great-uncle. Wrap your head around that one!

 

DOWNIE "WALKS WITH THE STARS"

 The Assembly Of First Nations honoured Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie in Quebec yesterday (Dec. 6) for his work on Reconciliation.

The Assembly gave a very emotional Downie a star blanket and he participated in a naming ceremony. He was given the name "walks with the stars" in the Lakota language.

 

NEW STONES VIDEO

 The Rolling Stones have released the first video for a track from their new album of blues covers, "Blue & Lonesome".

"Ride 'Em On Down" features actress Kristen Stewart joyriding through city streetsin a badass blue Mustang GT.

It. Is. Slick!

The album comes out today (Dec. 2nd).

 

"SOMETHING FOR NOTHING"

 RUSH are streaming an unreleased live outtake of "Something For Nothing" as a preview of the expanded 40th anniversary edition of their 1976 album "2112", which comes out on December 16th!

 

"PARANOID" ON POPS

 Black Sabbath have released a video of their 1970 performance of 'Paranoid' on the long running UK T.V. show Top Of The Pops.

The band is nearing the end of their final tour, which wraps up in their home town of Birmingham, England in February.

 

RUSH DONATES TO DOWNEY FUND

 Canadian Music Week will honour RUSH as the 2017 recipients of the Humanitarian Spirit Award this coming April.

A potion of the prize is a $40,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

The band have decided to give it to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Hospital.

Way to go guys!

 An angry letter from John Lennon to Paul and his then-wife Linda McCartney following the breakup of the Beatles has been put up for auction.

Although undated, it's estimated that it was written in 1971, shortly before Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono moves to the U.S.

It's expected to fetch more than $20,000.

 

AERO-VEDERCI BABY!

 The Bad Boys from Boston are calling it quits. Aerosmith have announced the first series of dates for a 2017 farewell tour.

Rod Stewart has been made a knight. The ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Oct.11).

He'll now be known as Sir Roderick David Stewart.

Prince William performed the honors. Stewart was knighted not just for his music, but also for his charitable work.

 If you're lucky enough to get PBS, the long-running music program, Austin City Limits, will air a concert by Robert Plant with the Sensational Space Shifters this Saturday (Oct. 15).

They'll peform a mix of Plant's solo matieral and songs from his Led Zeppelin days.

Pink Floyd are offering another taste of their upcoming "The Early Years 1965- 1972" box set with a video for the remixed version of "Childhood's End", off of their 1972 album "Obscured By Clouds".

The box comes out on November 11th.
